Dine at My Table: 21st - 30th September
I n 1212, King John allowed the city to elect a mayor and councilors and therefore govern itself. York 800 celebrates this. Gill Cooper, head of Arts and Culture, City of York Council, said: "We want to create a year of events that will make people feel proud of York's past, celebrate its present, and embrace its future."
It is York Food and Drink Festival's intention to run with the York 800 theme, putting the focus of the 2012 Food Festival firmly with the 'community'. This means, for the second year running, you have the opportunity to 'host' an event.
Here’s how it works:
- We are looking for events that are unusual in some way. For example:
- An historic table (That is it will be in a historic building)
- An ethnic table (The meal will be typical of one found in another country)
- A specialist table (A local celebrity, A chef at home, experimental / scientific cuisine) - In many cases, it will be an intimate meal, with up to six or eight people dining. However, it could be up to 40 guests in some venues / homes
- The meals will vary in style, length (number of courses) and price, so it is up to you, as host, to make sure your guest will know what to expect. (we will work with you to promote this)
- In all cases it will be a ‘set menu’, so people attending will not expect special considerations. (We will warn diners that hosts may not be able to cope with special dietary requirements and hosts have the right to refuse)
