The Great British Menu – REVISITED! - at the York Food and Drink Festival

Visitors to the York Food & Drink Festival will soon have a unique opportunity to watch three superb, nationally recognised but local chefs as they recreate their recent dishes produced in the TV series – The Great British Menu.

Guests will also get to quiz the chefs about their recipes and their tips for successful entertaining. The result is this special evening in the sumptuous, traditional setting of the Guildhall – right in the centre of historic York on Tuesday 20th September.”

Steph from Rudding Park says: “Whilst I was filming the latest TV series, I thought to myself “wouldn’t it be great if we could reproduce this atmosphere for food lovers back home in Yorkshire ?”. So I got hold of Michael Hjort, Director of the York Food Festival & put the idea for the evening to him. As always, Michael was positive, immediately seeing the opportunity to include a very special version of this successful TV series for visitors to enjoy at this years’ York Food & Drink Festival.

The evening on Tuesday 20th September, begins with a delicious aperitif to accompany traditional Yorkshire nibbles as the entertainment begins. Compere for the evening, Elaine Lemm, renowned food critic and ambassador for quality British food, will introduce the stars for the evening; the three, famous & successful local chefs – Stephanie Moon of Rudding Park, Tim Bilton of The Butcher’s Arms and Andrew Pern from the Star at Harome.

These chefs are all well known to each other so the visitors can expect a lot of rivalry & professional banter as the professionals settle down to recreate their now famous signature dishes. Tim says , ‘Looking forward to getting cooking again with two great professional chefs, and also looking forward to a great evening of food and banter at one of the North’s most prestigious food festivals.’

Guests for the evening have the opportunity during the interval to sample some delicious, traditional English beef from the award winning Taste Tradition in Thirsk. Elaine Lemm, compere’ will introduce the entertainment for the second half of the evening before the chefs take the stage again and get to work on their recipes for yummy puddings.

Then it will be over to the guests to ask those burning questions that they’ve been wondering about for far too long. This part of the evening could prove to be the most entertaining of all as the visitors try to prise well-kept, culinary secrets from the chefs.

The evening rounds off with coffee & cake after the “performance” before guests head off home after an evening of entertainment, good local food and, hopefully, a few tips to help them with their own entertaining.
