As part of York Food Festival 2024, Jasper and Jim from York Whisky Club will be showcasing four whiskies aged in sherry casks, paired with their sherry-style counterparts presented by our Sherry Knight, Rob Scott-South. Johnny our Executive Chef will be creating a bespoke four-course menu to complement the sherries and the whiskies.

Now in its third year – The Bedern Hall Pork Pie Competition is back!
Did you know that before restoration Bedern Hall was part of William Wright’s Pork Butchers, famed across the City for their pies.? In search of the perfect pie, we’ve invited local pie makers to enter their very best pies for you to judge and vote for your favourites. Local ales from Yorkshire Heart Brewery, the perfect pie partner, available to buy.
We’ve partnered with The Company of Butchers of the City of York who sponsored the trophy and gave guidance on judging.
Last year’s winners in the Traditional Category were Voakes Pies and Ged Bell. We hope they’ll both be back to defend their Titles!
A celebration of the great medieval King’s birthday. While medieval dress is optional all those properly attired will be entered into a prize draw. Enjoy a welcome glass of mead followed by a three course meal; pottage to start, a choice of contemporary main courses, poached pear in red wine for dessert and finish with a slice of birthday cake. Marlon’s wife Isabel, who underwent a kidney transplant 10 years ago, will be present to share her personal journey and experiences. Her story offers a unique and encouraging perspective on living with kidney disease, and she’ll be available to chat and provide insights for those interested.
We aim to create an event that not only highlights the importance of kidney health but also fosters a sense of community and hope for those navigating this challenging journey.
You are invited to attend a special Medieval-inspired dining experience at the historic Barley Hall in the centre of York.
