Brew York and Love Cheese join forces to explore cheese and beer
Elevate your taste buds at our exclusive Beer and Cheese Tasting Event, featuring the local experts from Love Cheese! Dive into a curated experience where you’ll sample four distinctive beers handpicked by the renowned Brew York, each thoughtfully paired with four artisanal cheeses selected by Love Cheese.
Starting on the Wednesday before the Festival and ending on the first Sunday, CAMRA expect to serve around 200 local and national cask and keg beers from a large selection of breweries plus ciders and perries. This includes Yorkshire breweries and cideries, particularly those within 25 miles of York. There will be an expanded range of the best ales and kegs, ciders and perries from around the UK together plus a range of wine, mead and soft drinks.
Four Course Paired Tasting Menu
As part of York Food Festival 2024, Jasper and Jim from York Whisky Club will be showcasing four whiskies aged in sherry casks, paired with their sherry-style counterparts presented by our Sherry Knight, Rob Scott-South. Johnny our Executive Chef will be creating a bespoke four-course menu to complement the sherries and the whiskies.

The assize is taken from a medieval custom whereby the Sheriff would summon their people to visit the ale houses in the city and taste the ale to ensure it was palatable. Now a staple in the Civic charities fundraising calender this year will form part of the popular York Food Festival.
Assembling at the Mansion House in St Helen’s Square from 14:00 the Sheriff of York will make a proclamation to start the traditional event, they will be joined by York Mix, Owl Adventures, The Town Crier, York Guard and Waits before heading off on pre-selected routes around the city visiting ‘ale houses’. This year each group will visit the Food Festivals main bar in the Entertainment Marquee where an additional proclamation will be given. Those participating will be encouraged to be dressed in traditional medieval costume.
To event will conclude at York Mansion House for a fish and chip supper in the Dining Room accompanied by a Brew York favourite.

Meet the team from Ryedale Vineyard who are providing an excellent opportunity to learn about and try a selection of Yorkshire made wine.
The Vineyard’s team are sharing and discussing tasters of their wine for those over the age of 18 as well as an array of local cheese and nibbles paired with the wine. There is the ability to buy bottles of the wine during the tasting session as well.

Step through the powder-blue gate into our beautiful Walled Garden Vineyard. Stroll through the vines while discovering the fascinating history of the Yorkshire Vineyard at Carlton Towers.
Your guided tour of our Vineyard will go through how it all began and the process of harvesting today. Afterwards, head into our Stables Tearoom overlooking the Vineyard, relax and enjoy a delicious fresh scone, cup of tea and a glass of fizz.

No longer just about cheap or famous if highly traditional wines; today Hungary, Romania – especially Transylvania, and Croatia among others can produce startlingly original wines from traditional varieties alongside very high quality wines from internationally famous varietals.
